Cooksley Ranch

Steve and Wanda Cooksley have been raising Hungarian horses in central Nebraska for more than half a century.
Originally Steve raised the horses for use on the ranch. Back in the 50's and 60's, he needed at least five good horses just for his personal use, as he rode the thousands of rolling acres caring for the cattle, and a couple dozen horses for the use of others working the ranch. He could have made more money on horses raising and selling Quarter horses, which had just started to become popular in Nebraska - but he was attracted to the Hungarian horses for their stamina, good sense, and especially their long, ground-covering stride.
If you want to buy a Hungarian horse for a reasonable price, and you are prepared to work with a horse who hasn't had a lot of handling, Cooksley Ranch is a great place to go. But be forewarned that neither Steve, nor his son George who now manages the ranch, is a salesman! They are still too busy running the cattle business to advertise the horses, or make fancy videos. If you make the long drive out to the ranch, they will be happy to take you out to the big pastures in an old truck to see the horses, and bring in the ones you want to take a closer look at.
